St Boswells War Memorial Project
As part of a wider project relating to the St. Boswells War Memorial, which involves its relocation to a more central site within the village, enabling it to be more safely and widely accessible, it was also proposed to create this linked website to shed some light on the lives, and the deaths, of the men whose names are honoured.
Some have direct descendants or other relatives still alive and aware of their fate, others may not. By providing a short personal profile of each individual, as well as contemporaneous accounts from War Diaries and similar documents, it is hoped that we can create a more rounded picture of each man, rather than them just be a name on a list. It also recognises the harrowing situations and conditions in which they met their end, as well as the immense loss that was sustained by their families and friends.
Research has been carried out using as wide a range of resources as are readily available, and there has been some input from descendants. While every effort has been made to verify the information provided, if there are any inaccuracies, then we beg your forbearance. There are some men who have been hard to trace, or where direct links to the village have been difficult to find, so any corrections or clarification would be gratefully received.
