Henry (Harry) Scott Age 28
Regimental No. 200022 Sergeant 1/4 Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers
Died 29 July 1920
Buried St Boswells Churchyard (Benrig)
Personal Background
Henry was the third son of William and Ellen Scott of Melrose Buildings or Melrose Place, St. Boswells. His father, William, was a tailor by trade, though later became a postman. Harry had five brothers, Adam, George, James, Robert and Charles and a sister, Jane. The family lived at Mainhill when Henry was a baby, then moved into the village. The 1911 Census shows Harry's job was as an Engineer (Traction) - a useful skillset in the farming environment of the time.
It is proving difficult to find his service records, and it is possible that they were amongst those lost during bombing in WW2.
Military Background
In February 1918 Sergeant Scott developed Pulmonary Tuberculosis which gradually worsened and was the cause of his death, presumably before having been formally demobbed.
