b. 30.03.1911
Parents: William and Margaret (Whitson) Scott
School: St Boswells Primary
Occupation: Mason
Enlisted: 11.12.1941
Regiment: Royal Army Service Corps (RASC), Driver, 463 Water Tank Company
Served: England and North Africa
Circumstances of death: Killed by enemy action at sea, 02.03.1944
Memorial: Brookwood Memorial, Surrey (near Farnborough). This Memorial is devoted to men and women who served, primarily in the UK, but were lost in circumstances other than major battles etc. Some, like Pte. Scott, died at sea, in hospital ships or troop transports, others in covert actions, or while on service in UK.
It would appear that the 463 Water Tank Company had been deployed to North Africa in the autumn of 1942, and may also have moved from there to Italy. The troop ship LST362 on which they were travelling in a convoy from the Mediterranean, through the Bay of Biscay, was torpedoed by U-744 and sunk on 2 March 1944, with 60+ fatalities.
